Model United Nations (MUN)

9th-12th Grade Students
Program Duration: Full Academic Year

Overview
The 10th annual ATIDMUN Conference, hosted by Atid Madaim High School in Lod, has officially begun.

Approximately 400 students from 30 schools across Israel and from diverse sectors, dressed in formal attire, will participate in the festive opening ceremony.

Our students, who are introduced to the world of Model United Nations, gain valuable skills, attend multiple conferences, and often go on to become mentors themselves. In this way, the torch is passed from generation to generation, creating a thriving MUN community led by students’ passion and commitment to the field.

The conference spans two days and is organized by current students and alumni of the school community, under the leadership of Ms. Bronia Kavakovitz, the Head of the English Department. Her deep enthusiasm for MUN continues to inspire and empower dozens of students each year.

What’s in the program?
Model United Nations simulates the workings of various UN committees dealing with political, economic, social, and global issues. Students participate as diplomatic representatives of countries, committee chairs, or delegates from non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Each participating school sends a delegation to represent one or more countries or organizations in the various committees.

Preparation for the conference lasts several months and requires in-depth research, strong writing and public speaking skills in English, and the ability to think critically and creatively. Students must work collaboratively and demonstrate leadership throughout the process. Delegates receive their assignments in advance and research the positions of the countries or organizations they represent.

Additionally, students learn and practice the formal procedures used during MUN sessions, including structured debate, collaboration with peers, and preparation of written materials during training sessions.

Through this process, students experience the complexity of international relations. They gain a deep understanding of current global events, develop a broad perspective on worldwide challenges, and become aware of the political nature of international issues. They also begin to explore innovative solutions to these complex problems, often offering insights and leadership far beyond their years.

What’s Required from the School?

  • A dedicated MUN team
  • Pedagogical and logistical planning process
  • Budget allocated for logistics and participation
