Science Hackathon

Program Duration: One-Time Event

What’s in the Program? 

The Science Hackathon emphasizes students’ ability to apply scientific and technological knowledge to solve complex challenges while developing innovative and original ideas. 

Participants will be guided by professional mentors as they work on creating impactful solutions with real-world relevance. 

Program Goals 

  • To instill creative thinking, perseverance, and teamwork 
  • To present projects and initiatives professionally and effectively in competitive forums 
  • To encourage clarity and engagement in idea presentation, aiming to impress and convince judges 
  • Winning teams will receive continued mentorship and connections with companies and entrepreneurs to help implement their ideas 

Training and Preparation 

  • Lead teachers will participate in a comprehensive training course to gain the tools needed to guide students through the innovation process 
  • Teachers will learn how to define and analyze a social or technological problem, conduct effective challenge-based research, and teach students creative thinking and problem-solving techniques 
  • Each school will form a representative team, selected by the trained teacher, to focus on developing a unique social-tech initiative through collaborative planning and exploration 

 

The Main Event 

A 20-hour hackathon (overnight) will bring together student teams to compete in real time 

  • The event will include mentorship from industry experts, entrepreneurs, and professionals in relevant fields 
  • Representatives from the Atid Network will also be present to support and evaluate the projects 

What’s Required from the School? 

  • Appoint a lead teacher 
  • Recruit a team of at least 5–6 motivated students from science and/or technology tracks 
  • Hold bi-weekly preparation meetings 
  • Ensure participation of both the teacher and students in national training sessions 
  • Select a relevant project or initiative to be developed during the hackathon
