Education Program in the Israel Prison Service (IPS)

Grades 10–12

Educational programs within the prison system are considered an integral part of rehabilitation efforts, based on the belief that education can bring about real change among inmates – instilling values, fostering personal growth, and paving the way toward reintegration as normative members of society.

Today, a variety of formal and informal educational programs are available in prisons, aiming not only to provide knowledge and skills, but also to support inmates’ future reintegration into the community upon their release.

The educational framework operates according to adult education curricula under the supervision of the Ministry of Education.

The Atid Education Network, a recognized leader in the field of education, serves as the official operator of the national inmate education program. As the awarded franchisee, Atid is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative learning programs -ranging from basic literacy to full completion of 12 years of education. The network also provides diagnostic assessments for inmates with learning disabilities and develops interactive learning models tailored to inmates in segregated or high-security units who cannot participate in traditional classroom settings.

In addition, Atid established a dedicated digital platform to support teachers who have chosen to engage in this meaningful work -educating inmates across 22 educational centers in correctional facilities throughout Israel, from Hermon Prison in the north to Nafha in the south.

The platform includes a wide range of educational materials: structured curricula, lesson plans aligned with various learning levels, worksheets, assessment tools, and educational games.
